Personality Tests are for Buzzfeed, right?

Don't get me wrong, I love all those silly personality quizzes, like the "Which Mario Kart character should you actually play with?" (I totally got Yoshi, by the way... surprising since I would assume I was more of a Princess Peach type of girl), but do you really learn anything about yourself when you answer those questions?

I mean, I guess I learned that I'm a quick decision maker.... and that Bananas and Shells don't phase me.

But seriously, I am a HUGE fan of the real personality tests. I learned a lot about myself from the Meyers Briggs test (CLICK HERE TO TAKE IT!) when I did it through a previous employer. I learned that I am an  ESFJ or an ESTJ which means my strengths fall in Extroversion, Sensing, Feeling or Thinking, and Judging. As I look through a bunch of funny Pinterest graphics about which Disney/LOTR/Harry Potter/Star Wars character associates with which personality type, I've learned that my personality type is either the motherly figure or the highly critical one (and sometime the bad guy) because I love taking care of people but I like power.

News flash. I do like power. But I'd like to think it's more of a McGonagall  type of ESTJ than a Darth Vader ESTJ.

News flash, again. I'm the Momma of all my friend groups. Like, my senior year of college, I got wished Happy Mother's Day by TWO DIFFERENT PEOPLE. (And I secretly loved it.)

Anywho...

As I'm going through my new search for employment, I was asked to take a new personality test that I had never heard of, called the Core Values test (TAKE IT HERE). It's a little bit different as it has you pick words instead of answering questions, like in most personality tests. I was really intrigued to see what my results would be since all i was doing was clicking two out of four words per box.

When I read my results, I was shocked. It was perfect. It described me better than any personality test I had ever taken, and I've taken quite a few!

Here's a little excerpt from the results:

Your scores indicate you have MERCHANT/INNOVATOR tendencies.  When you enter a room there is more love and wisdom energy suddenly in that room. You are the presence of wise love. This is your assignment, to be the effective presence of wise love. You look at the circumstances and situations around you through the eyes of truth and compassion. You operate from reason and cognitive thinking, to learn who people really are, and what they need and want. You focus on nurturing and supporting others and yourself. This is balanced by your intuitive/reasoning capacity to see the ways things are. You observe situations until you understand, providing the best responses, strategies and solutions.  Your highest and best contribution can only be made in situations in which there is a significant and constant need for wise love.

I thought that was pretty spot on. It also goes into how I work with the other personality types and boy was that on again... at least for my work life.

I always think it's good to take a few of these tests so you get a well rounded idea of your strengths. For example, both Myers-Briggs and the Core Value tests stated that I am an emotionally driven person as well as someone who is very perceptive of how others around me feel.

Okay, Okay Sarah... I don't really care about your personality results. Why should I take these tests?!

Hear me out. If you know that your personality type does not work well with another personality type, how do you deal with your conflicts? By knowing your strengths and the strengths of your associates or maybe even your boyfriend/girlfriend, conflict resolution may become easier since you know a bit more about how someone is processing the issue.

I think that in order to truly work together, people need to lift up each other's strengths and find the positive in the scenario. This does not mean being naive. This means looking at how to fix given situations instead of obsessing over a problem. This means seeing that people work in different styles and delegating tasks to those most apt to be successful. This means having a well rounded team to complete the organization.

THAT is why your personality test should stretch beyond Buzzfeed.
